Mason City man charged in gun incident

MASON CITY — A Mason City man has been charged in connection with an incident involving a gun last Friday on Nettle Avenue.

Thomas Al Peck, 62, was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with reckless use of a fireman, according to a news release from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department.

On Friday, Nov. 9, deputies were called to 15651 Nettle Ave. for a report of a man with a gun.

A caller said that Peck had shot at his brother’s vehicle and was in the area on foot.

Deputies searched the area for the suspect. Peck was located and taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to Mercy Medical Center— North Iowa in Mason City for evaluation.

No injuries were reported.

Peck is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail under $2,000 cash bond.

The caller said 62 year old Thomas Peck shot at his brother’s car and was in the area. Deputies searched and found the suspect. He was taken into custody. Peck was later transported to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa for evaluation.

Swaledale man injured in tree accident



SWALEDALE — A man is being evaluated at Mercy Medical Center — North Iowa after a large branch fell on top of him Thursday morning.

The victim has been identified as William Capsers, 26, Swaledale, according to Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Kevin Pals.

Capsers was taken to the hospital by Mercy AirLife.

The incident occurred in the 800 block of Fourth Street in Swaledale at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

No other details about the incident are available at this time, according to Pals.

SUSPECT A LARGE *UPDATE*: SEARCH Man apprehended in strangulation


CLEAR LAKE — A 30-year-old man was apprehended Thursday after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife and attempting to strangle her.

Shad Arispe, no address listed, was arrested and charged with committing strangulation, a class D felony; domestic assault third offense, a class D felony; and public intoxication, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Arispe was also wanted on a warrant for a parole violation.

Clear Lake Police Chief Gregory Peterson reported his department received a call at 2:50 p.m. from a 32-year-old woman who said she had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend and then threatened with a knife.

He fled the scene before officers arrived, the report said.

Officers responded to 1010 Village Road. When they arrived they found the victim to be suffering from non-life threatening injuries. A knife was taken as evidence at the scene. She was not transported for medical treatment.

Officers searched the surrounding neighborhood for the suspect without success.

A 911 call was received from Opportunity Village at 3:45 p.m., saying an intoxicated male was at the facility, located at 1200 N. 9th Street W.

When officers arrived they found Arispe and took him into custody for the alleged assault.

Officers from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and the Department of Natural Resources assisted in the search for Arispe.

Suspect at Large in Cerro Gordo County


CLEAR LAKE — In Clear Lake today, Clear Lake Police and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Deputies were seen searching a neighborhood Thursday afternoon following the unconfirmed report of a stabbing at approximately 3 p.m.

Two squad cars, one marked and one unmarked, were parked on Pine Brooke Drive. The officers could be seen walking through backyards looking over fences.

The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Village Green Drive.

A pick-up truck belonging to the Clear Lake Police Department was parked in front of a townhouse there.
